Design for Good Environmental app
Project Overview
We were tasked to make an application that was environmentally friendly. We created environmental footprint website in the form of an application. Designing and sketching the application from scratch as well as creating a lo-fi to hi-fi prototype was a 8 week project.

Problem Statement

“How might we help truly ethical businesses be more transparent with eco-conscientious consumers, while giving these consumers the opportunity to make decisions based on a company’s environmental polices and impact on the planet.”

Objective
What type of platform will you be designing for?
Designing an application and responsive application
Deliverable

Design Process
-
Empathize- try to understand with no judgment; Interviews
-
Define- using personas, role objectives, decisions, challenges, and pain points
-
Ideate- Share Ideas, prioritize
-
Prototype- Mockups
-
Test- conducted interviews, and user testing to find out what works and what does not work.
-
Ideate again- from the UT and interviews, we synthesize our findings and edit from there.
-
High Fidelity - We made a realistic functioning mockup
Research and Comparative Analysis
Through research, we discovered that there wasn't an application that was created for an environmental footprint. There were a few websites that we used to generate ideas to create an environmental footprint application. Through secondary research, we found out that the world could really use an app that could connect eco-friendly people to other like-minded users, companies and products. Here are also some reasons:

-
Disconnect between retail leaders and consumers regarding sustainability
-
Companies fail to account for the environmental impact of their packaging.
-
Millennials and Gen Zs are willing to pay more for sustainable products.
-
We could not find a product that helps connect people with companies that are truly sustainable.

Interview Overview
-
age 25 - 60
-
Any Gender
-
All participants has used environmental friendly of some kind
-
Online shopper
-
Mobile user
Conducting Interview
We created a series of questions to ask during our 1 on 1 interviews with interviewee for application. Based on these answers, we created the affintiy map that show us a common pattern. We gain pain points to create this persona that aloud us to make a better application.
Empathy Map
Usability Testing
5 session recordings: Often used with digital products like websites or apps, session recordings entail a researcher watching a recorded session of a user navigating the product to accomplish a task. This can also include a heat map analysis—a visual representation of where most users are clicking, scrolling to, or pointing at their mouse.
Persona

Affinity Map

These personas that I made were to create a general idea of what a potential customer would want within this environmental footprint application. Keeping in mind that there are also what they would like or dislike within this application as well. We thought of an age group that we are also targeting to know who our audience is.
User Flow and Wireframing
During the thought process I started sketches for idea on how the application might look and these were some on the sketches. We iterated the idea a few more times then created a greyscale Lo-fi phototype of the orignal user flow. There
is a video that we created to see how the
user flow would be like as we go through the phototype.

Logo Design

After working on the lo-fi prototype and iderating what needs to be work on we then started to work on the logo ideas. We decided to go with green tones and industrial metal tones for the logo concept because the application is going to have an environmental footprint with a dash of technology. Then we started the rest of the color scheme for the overall application and the typeography.

Synthesis and Implementation
Once we have tested through usability testing many times, we then started to design the final version of this application. Visually we throught we would go with some earth and nature tones to keep the theme of environment friendly vibes, but since there is technology involved we then add some metal tones to give it technology tone to it as well.
Conclusion
Our design process was a success! We solved the problem of users not having the transparency they need to make a truly eco-friendly purchase and connection. Usability testing clearly identified that users needed this product and would use it.

As for next steps, ideate over the data we collect from our user testing, package the app up for developers, and then try to save the planet!
